An Update of Agility CMS’s Aging User Interface
After years of iterative development, it became clear that an aging user experience was holding Agility CMS back from reaching their full potential and new customer opportunities.
Opportunity
With almost a decade of development under their belts, the team behind the Agility CMS content management platform realized it was time for the first major user interface overhaul in the history of the product. While the platform powers some of Canada’s largest websites and mobile applications, the emergence of new design patterns and the importance of responsive design required the Agility team to go back to the drawing board.
Solution
Having collaborated in the past, and with an extensive knowledge of the platform, MitreBox UXD was called in to lay the groundwork for an updated user experience. In collaboration with the Agility product team, not only was a responsive tablet friendly interface required, there was also significant desire to simplify the complexity of the system. As their name implies, a flexible and agile approach was required to provide the Agility team with the various design patterns and direction needed to evolve the product into the future.
Results
Over a number of months, MitreBox UXD and Agility prioritized features and functional elements for the redesign. During weekly sprints, MitreBox UXD delivered a scalable responsive framework via an HTML rapid prototype; and through ongoing feedback and iteration the new Agility CMS interface took shape. With a newly responsive interface and the use of simple yet powerful interaction models, the Agility CMS platform took a major step into the modern world. While functionally backwards compatible with the legacy version of the system, the new release offers clients a huge upgrade in terms of usability and efficiency.
